An Amazing Friday...

Yesterday morning, my hubby had an appointment in Colorado Springs first thing. Since it is a bit of a drive, we always make sure to get as much done as we can while we are up there. I had been accumulating quite a few coupons for free stuff so I decided to take the opportunity to cash those in while we were there. To start out, we went to Target to search for a hungry hungry hippos travel game that is on sale for $4.99. I have a coupon for $5 off, so it would have been free, but of course they were sold out. Oh well. So, we were all starting to get a little hungry and I happened to have coupons for 4 free chicken tacos at Del Taco. We went and picked these up along with 6 bean and cheese burritos (49 cents each!) for a grand total of $3.17 out of pocket ($4 in free tacos). We needed drinks (I hate paying for soda at restaurants!) so we ran over to walmart and picked up a 12 pack of soda and a 24 pack of water for a little over $5 (drinks for the whole day, plus some!). Then, we headed to Petsmart to cash in a coupon for a free greenies brand chew bone for my dogs ($4.29 saved). Now, for the free spices, wow... okay I had a coupon for a free jar of Bicentennial Rub from Penzey's Spices. I really had no clue what to expect because I'd never been to this store. It is amazing! There is literally a million different herbs, spices, and mixes for all sorts of concoctions in this store. We took a while to look around, ended up leaving with only the free rub ($4.79 saved) because truthfully, I couldn't afford most of the stuff in that store, but I did find a lot of spices that I have searched for in the past to no avail so I figure I will definitely be going back another day. If you are doing the math, so far out of pocket has been around $8.17 with savings of over $13. But, we can't stop there, can we?! I also had a coupon for Hallmark Gold Crown for $10 off a $10 or more purchase. This by far was the hardest part of the whole day. I love Hallmark as it is and have spent probably a trillion hours in these stores. I wanted to get a Christmas gift for either my father-in-law or his girlfriend. Seriously, I had no clue whatsoever as to what I was supposed to buy the girlfriend, and shopping for a guy at Hallmark really has more challenges than you can imagine. Finally, after about an hour of looking over everything in the store over and over again, I found an Air Force suncatcher for $11.99. So, for a well worth it, $2.88 out of pocket, we finally walked out with a Christmas present for my FIL. At this point, it is well after lunch (and considering my hubby was with me and a soon to be teenage boy that grows an inch everytime I blink), we had to get more food before rushing home to get the kids to their drama class. I remembered that Burger King had their chicken sandwiches for buy one get one (or 2 for $3.49), so my daughter and I got those while the guys split 5 buck doubles, for a grand total of a little over $8. (Running total $19, with savings of around $19.50). You are probably thinking that was it, the day was done as far as the deals go... well, you'd be wrong! After running the kids to drama and science project and science olympiad meetings, setting up scenery for the dance recital tonight, and going to a cookie exchange at at a friend's house (did I forget to mention that on top of all of this, yesterday just happened to be a very busy day... LOL), I got home and had to catch up with my blog reading (very important part of the day!). I came across a groupon deal for 3 redbox movies for $1, which I had to get right away (by the way, this offer is on the Colorado Springs Groupon page and ends tomorrow, so if you wanna take advantage yourself, you should check it out). This makes it about 33 cents per rental, with a savings of $2. Then, I found a coupon code for $5 off a $5 or more purchase, plus free shipping (double bonus) at either Chadwicks.com or Onestopplus.com (Code= CHNEG5. I'm not sure when it expires). I quickly searched and found myself a pair of pants in the clearance section for $5.88; just 88 cents after coupon. Which, by the way, I paid for with the free $5 I earned on my paypal card this week for cashing in Swagbucks. Overall, I spent somewhere around $20.88 and saved $26.50. I think that was some pretty successful shopping! Best of all, I got to spend time with my hubby and kids and with some great friends at the cookie exchange ;-)

Kids Eat Free Nights- Colorado Springs Restaurants

Whenever we are in the Springs, it is nice to know where we can go to eat and save some money with the kids eating free or for special rates on certain nights. I am signed up for email lists with quite a few of the restaurants in the Springs and get lots of coupons that way as well. And, I pick up really cheap gift (I've never paid more that $3 for a $25 certificate) certificates on Restaurants.com from time to time to help out as well. This list that Carrie Issac put together on her blog, SpringsBargains.com, is extremely handy since it lists what restaurants have kids specials and when. I have a copy saved in my email for quick reference from my phone when needed. Here's the link: Springs Bargains- Kids Eat Free

Christmas Parade, The Nutcracker #2, and so much more...

This weekend is going to be packed with activities. First off, Fremont Civic Theater is doing The Nutcracker at Washington Elementary Friday and Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 3pm. Admission is a canned good for Loaves and Fishes. We saw The Nutcracker last weekend at Pikes Peak Center with free tickets that I had gotten and it was absolutely breathtaking! It was put on by Ballet Idaho and The Ballet Society of Colorado Springs, with musical accompaniment by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and the Colorado Springs Children's Chorus. I am excited to see the FCT version and to cheer on all the kids we know that are performing in it!
Santa Claus is showing up all over town both Friday and Saturday. Kids can get free pics with him and goodies at Sunflower Bank on Royal Gorge from 3-5 pm Friday. They can also get free pics with him at Walmart Saturday and Sunday (from 10-2, I think? Don't trust my memory... you might wanna call ahead for details). And, Saturday he will be downtown in front of Wells Fargo before the Christmas Parade on Main Street at 6pm (I think?). Michael and Alexis are both in the Parade with Anita McCoy Dance Studio and I guess actually Mike and I are too since we have to pull/push the music (our normal parade duty... LOL). Home Depot is also having a children's workshop on Saturday from 9am-noon where kids can make a winter picture frame for free.
Lots of fun Christmas stuff to do ;-)

A pair of pants for 86 cents at JCPenney???!!!

I was browsing through the many blogs I follow tonight and came across a code (GIVEJOY) for JCPenney for $10 off a $10 or more purchase. I, of course, had to find the cheapest thing possible in order to make the code worth it (and actually buy something that was needed) so I scrambled through the site, which I accessed through my shopathome account (you can earn 6% cash back through shopathome for JCPenney). Anyway, I came up with quite a few options but finally settled on a pair of pants for Lexy which were $10.80. I selected to have it shipped to the store for free, so my grand total out of pocket cost was 86 cents! For a brand new pair of jeans ;-) Plus, I earned about 65 cents cash back through shopathome, so overall that makes them 21 cents!!! Walgreens Trip # 2

For today's trip, I started out with the $3 off cpn, $5 in Jingle Cash, a $4 off cpn for a gillette razor, and a $5 off $10 of wet n wild makeup. I left with 7 nail polishes for my daughter, lipgloss for my daughter, eye liner and lip stick for me, a gillette fusion razor for my hubby, and a 5 pc. manicure kit with a carrying case (didn't plan to buy this but was looking for something to go with all the nail polish for Lexy and this was a good buy at $5. Anyway, grand total was just over $7 and I got $4 back in Jingle Cash plus a Burt's Bee Lotion sample and a Burt's Bee Scrub sample and a bunch more coupons (not that I have a strange addiction or anything like that). And, I had an awesome cashier which totally made up for my bad experience yesterday ;-)

Walgreens Deal Today

I have been working on scenarios all week for Walgreens and they just keep getting better! To start with, I used the free code over the weekend for an 8x10 collage print. When I picked this up on Monday, I got a coupon for $3 off a $15 purchase that expired the next day. This just totally buttered up the deal that I was already planning but was going to do later in the week. So, yesterday I went in and purchased Dayquil, Nyquil, Dawn dishwashing detergent, a package of charmin toilet tissue and 3 of the 29 cent candies, all for about $12 (which actually turned out to be under $9 after I went back, keep reading ;-). After a battle with the cashier over my $3 off coupon (she rang it up after the rest of my coupons which made the total under $15, & then tried to tell me I couldn't use my coupon, which I very politely told her she needed to enter it first. She had to take off the 4 other coupons and then re-ring the $3 cpn and the 4 coupons again, which made it work. However, the extra 20-30 seconds she spent on this apparently wrecked her whole day because she was very rude to me from this point forward... oh well, at least I was nice :-) I proceeded out the door, with my $5 in jingle cash to be used on my next visit which was of course planned, without thinking about checking my receipt. Well, after I got home I pulled out the receipt and discovered that I picked up Nyquil with vitamin c which was $3 more than the one that was on sale that I intended to purchase. So, I got back in my car, made an exchange for the right product, and guess what? I got another $3 off $15 purchase that expires today!!! To add to my already great shopping trip that I had planned ;-) So, for today's trip, I have it all planned out where I will only be spending about $3 and getting makeup, a gillette fusion razor, and a few other small things for stocking stuffers if needed (you have to have at least 1 item for every coupon, so I may have to pick up a couple of little things). But, that's not all... wait for it...... last night I was reading my blogs and found that you can save 15% on your total purchase today only at walgreens with a friends and family code!!! If you wanna grab a code yourself, you can text "HOLIDAY" to 21525 and they will text it to you or you can go here. Happy Saving ;-)

Poor Woman's Blog

I have had a website for several years now (www.freewebs.com/poorwomansguide) and over the years I have attempted to blog but have a tendency to forget that I am a "blogger" and go for months at a time without remember to blog. There is so much that I want to share with the world, though, so I have decided to once again try my hand at this blogging thing with the goal of blogging at least once per week. I am really excited to get this blog up and running so I will start it off with this goofy explanation about my procrastination habits (of course, I think it is actually due more to lack of time set aside to blog rather than procrastination but whatever :-)
Anyway, welcome to my "new" blog!
The Poor Woman (who really has more riches than she should ever hope to have!),
