Sewing Machine

Since my sewing machine has been broken for some time now and the backup machine I got from a friend is having bobbin issues that I cannot figure out to save my life, I finally broke down and bought a "new to me" sewing machine today... yes, it did come from a thrift store and was fairly inexpensive, but it is still a splurge especially with our current money crisis. But, I finally got to sew my daughter's Easter dress (yes, I said Easter) and am now working on figuring out how to hem. I am fairly new to sewing so this is all a big adventure for me ;-) Anyway, I was looking for video to explain hemming for me and I found this great simple one telling how to hem jeans... YAAAYYYY!!!

I will post pics of my daughter's Easter dress soon... btw this is the first item of clothing I have ever made :-) So excited!!!

Weekly Meal Plan- 07/25- 07/31

EEEEKKKK! Where did July go? I can hardly believe that this is the last week of the month. Anyway, here is my meal plan for the week:

Monday: Pinto Beans and Rice (crockpot recipe).
Tuesday: Taco Potatoes (probably will skip the heavy cream since that tends to be expensive, but we'll see)
Wednesday: Chicken Enchiladas  (okay.. changing this because I just found a great new recipe that I want to try instead... Grilled Lime Chicken Tacos... sounds delish!
Thursday: Tuna Casserole
Friday: Homemade Pizza (will see what we have at the end of the week in order to determine what kind and toppings, etc. )
Saturday: Sloppy Joes
Sunday: Pot Roast (been saving this bad boy in the freezer for a while now)

All of these will be served with fresh veggies from the garden (hopefully) and with anything I might pick up at the farmer's market this week. Hmmm... looking back over this list, I am detecting a Mexican theme...

Also, working on baking several loaves of bread this week since we ran completely out. I picked up this new breadmaker at a local thrift store for just a couple bucks before we left for CA and I absolutely love the fact that the hole it leaves in the bottom is tiny compared to my old breadmaker, so it doesn't bug me as much and I can actually bake my bread in it instead of taking it out and baking it in the oven like I used to do. And, it bakes bread a lot faster than my old one. I did learn that in order to get normal sized slices instead of huge slices, I can cut the loaf in half before slicing... so I get double the slices of bread than what I would get if I just cut it the way it comes out of the breadmaker ;-) And, we are also making lots of concoctions of popsicles lately... found this recipe this morning that I am going to try with some fresh cucumber and mint from our garden... it is the cucumber and mint one found near the bottom of this post by Kitchen Stewardship. Enjoy ;-)

Home Sweet Home

Okay, we have actually been home for almost 2 weeks, but it is taking a while to get everything caught up ;-) We had a great time in California and our daughter received all Emerald ratings for her dances at Nationals. We spent way more money than we intended, though, and are having a hard time coming up with extra money since we have been back home. Mike will be headed back to work around the 14th, to Orlando this time, but it will be about a month after that before he will get his first check (in ways I like getting paid once a month, but it is something that takes a while to become accustomed to). So everything is about basics right now... eating what we already have stocked in the freezer and pantry, what we are getting from the garden, and a few bucks here and there going for things we absolutely need.  Only basic bills being paid as well... utilities, mortgage,etc... everyone else will just have to wait. Having Jesus as our savior, a roof over our heads, and food in our tummies are the most important things right now. I know this too shall pass, and that God will bring us through this like he always has in the past. We did manage to find a buyer for our Camaro, even though he is paying a lot less than we wanted and he can't actually pay for it until the 1st. But, it will be nice to get it out of the driveway and to have the money to pay bills. And, to hopefully by more pieces to fix my hoses... we have been having serious hose issues this year with hoses bursting randomly which is not good considering we have gotten very little rain and I have to water the garden at least every other day at this point. Trying to cut down to once every 3 days but haven't been able to manage that yet with this heat. Would be nice if we had access to the ditch water like everyone else around us. Really need to find out about renting a share from someone. Hmmmm... maybe our neighbor behind us knows how that works... Anyway, have a great day and may God bless you all!
